Meet The Team: Ryan Dixon, English Teacher
Ryan Dixon, English Teacher
Friends would describe Mr. Dixon as a creator, someone who loves to laugh, and an explorer of food, places, and ideas. He has a passion for the banjo (just ask him if you want to learn to play!). If you can’t find Mr. Dixon at CXH, he’s most likely trying out a new restaurant with his wife or jumping on the trampoline with his kids.
Mr. Dixon is eager to be a part of the movement to rethink the way we do high school in this country. Though he lived in Seoul, South Korea, for five years before moving to the Grind City, Mr. Dixon has fallen in love with Memphis. He is excited to see how his students will connect with other people in Crosstown Concourse, and believes the Crosstown community will help his students become engaged citizens of Memphis.
Mr. Dixon is a collaborator and is inspired when people come together with ideas in order to achieve a single goal. His experiences in Seoul fueled his passion for teaching from a personal, local, and global perspective, making him a perfect fit for Crosstown High. Throughout his time at CXH he hopes to teach his students about the importance of listening to the stories of others in order to be able to empathize and even learn about themselves in the process. He believes our lives are our stories and “by learning how to tell our stories, we grow in self-knowledge, but also create opportunities to inspire, challenge, teach, and share with others.”
